In 1993, in obedience to God’s call, Ps. Matthew came to Goa and started working with alcohol and drug abusers. A visit to a slum changed his perspective on life completely. Their desperate lifestyle shocked him, and he began teaching the importance of hygiene, clean drinking water, and healthy food.
His heart especially went out for children living in these conditions. He was moved when he saw them begging on the streets, collecting rubbish, and even eating out of garbage bins to relieve their hunger. There, he found a vision and mission for his life.
One Sunday morning, an English lady called Anita Edgar came to the church and shared the same vision with Ps. Matthew. Together they started El Shaddai Charitable Trust. The charity has grown in every direction through the tireless work of Ps. Matthew and the team.
